because life should be eventful

So, I saw this idea on Pinterest and totally wanted to make one! It was such an incredibly easy project and only took about 10 minutes (not including staining the wood)! The great thing about this project is you could make it as narrow or wide as you want, with as many rungs as you need! I made mine shorter but wide enough to really display the blankets. I used this stain by Rustoleum in the Kona color. It turned out so pretty and only needed one coat.

Enjoy! Xo

What you’ll need:

1 – 1 x 4 x 10 piece of wood

1 quart of wood stain

Long nails and drill

First: I had handsome cut the wood to the measurements I needed

Second: I stained the wood (this is for more than one project).

Third: I measured out where I wanted the rungs to go and made marks with a sharpie.

I wanted the rungs to be at an angle so it was a little harder to hold everything while drilling.

I did put 2 nails on each side of the rungs to keep them from rotating.

Final: Put your favorite blankets on display! I just love how this turned out. Ours is a little shorter and wider than the one pictured but I like it that way!

Hostess Gifts

Ah! Normalcy has returned! We are finally all moved and (somewhat) settled. I hate moving but this one was exciting as we were moving WAY up in the world from where we were living. Our house is adorably retro but we just are so happy. Plus, it is a new decorating challenge for me to try and play into the retro feel. I will be posting pictures soon.

First, we went to Nashville weekend before last to meet with our Pastor and do some pre-marriage counseling. This was something that was very important to us as we wanted a Pastor that put a lot of interest into our relationship and making sure it was a healthy one before marriage. It was a great weekend and so nice to be back “home” for a couple of days.

This coming weekend I head to Salt Lake City to do my final fitting for my wedding dress! EEK! I am SO excited to see it and actually be able to bring it home with me! It will be a fun-filled weekend with my best friend, Heather, her hubby, Tappan, my mother and her mother! Can’t wait to do some shopping for dresses for my mom, hike and enjoy the 100 degree heat sans humidity. Boy, my hair is in for a treat!

I am SO excited to start doing more food blog posts though. With a bigger kitchen, I have more room for cooking projects and ability to take better pictures! Stay tuned!

Here are some pictures from the last couple of weeks to catch you up on what we have been up to!

Enjoy! Xo

I think the most dreaded task of all wedding planning is table seating. Who will sit at what tables? Who can all sit together? Do these people get a long? Do parents sit with kids? What if your bridal party wants to sit with their family? It can be a nightmare. However, weddings without planned seating can be a nightmare too! So, I have collected together some cute ideas for escort card displays. These are all so adorable and depending on your budget, you can use these as part of their favors as well!

Enjoy! Xo

This idea is so eclectic! I’m not sure where or how to find the little gold animals (maybe DIY?) but I just love this!

This idea is super cute and could be really cheap. Just find some thrifted highball glasses, add the letters for the last names and make the lollipop escort cards yourself! How clever..

This idea is simple and would smell oh-so-yummy! Just clothespin a small bundle of lavender to your cards!

For a summer-time wedding, this idea is great. You could use small oranges, lemons or limes. During fall what about using small pine cones or little pumpkins?

Skip the cards all-together and just write everything out on a chalkboard!

I LOVE this idea but the keys can get expensive. However, if you have the budget or resources to find them all, this would be beautiful!

For our wedding reception, our dinner china will all be mismatched plates. I saw this idea on a blog before we were even engaged and thought it was such a neat idea. Plus, china and dishes can be SO expensive to rent. So after we got engaged, I immediately started looking for dishes to use for the wedding. It has taken me about a year and a few months to collect them all but I can proudly say I am done! It probably sounds like a miserable experience trying to find all of these plates, but I found it fun. Digging through thrift stores and flea markets to find treasures is my idea of a fun Saturday afternoon! Anyways, in my quest for dishes, I had to buy a few full sets to get what I wanted (the flea market outside of Knoxville is amazing! Got 4 full sets of beautiful dishes for $20!). In these sets were these beautiful teacups. At first, I had no idea what I was going to do with them but kept them around anyways. I saw this idea on Pinterest and knew immediately I would use these teacups for some beautiful candles at our wedding! The process was really simple and they turned out so beautiful. I cannot wait to have them burning at our rehearsal dinner.

Enjoy! Xo

Items Needed:

Beautiful teacups of any size

10 lbs of soy wax – this will get you about 25 candles of standard size teacups (I bought this one off It melted very easily and will burn for longer)

Candle Wicks ( I bought these off

Hot Glue Gun, Glue Sticks

Step One: Wash your beautiful teacups and then dry really well with a bar towel (if you have one), less lint!

Step Two: Melt your wax in a double boiler. I used a saucepan with a couple inches of water in it then a metal bowl on top to melt the wax in.

Step Three: Take your hot glue gun and put a small dot of glue in the bottom of your cup (this is where it is important to make sure your cups are really dry!)

Step Four: Press a wick into the dot of glue in each cup (some other tutorials say to use a small skewer across the top of the cup to hold your wick in place but I found I didn’t have a problem with it standing on its own)

Step Five: Take your melted wax and transfer it (carefully!) into a larger vessel with a pour spout. Then pour the wax into your cups until you are a half inch or so from the top.

Step Six: Cut your wicks while the wax is still liquid. I gave about an inch or so of wick past the wax. (Doing this at this point in the process to will help your wick to stand up straight instead of falling over.)

Just thought I would share a few of my favorite things lately!

Handmade wishing tree tags that I can’t wait to have our guests and loved ones write well wishes on at our wedding.

I know this picture has been used a lot but these blueberries are so delicious. I look forward to them everyday for my morning snack.

These kitschy salt and pepper shakers add a bit of retro to our dining room table.

Watching our new little family member (Handsome will have a fit when he sees this) play makes me laugh so much. Especially when our great dane gets down on her level to play.

I have a feeling these teacup candles I made for our wedding will most definitely find their way back to our house after the event. They turned out so beautifully (post on how to make them is coming!).

I haven’t done one of these in awhile and I have been pinning stuff like crazy lately, so I figured I would share some with you all! I’m off to Denver tonight for my bachelorette weekend and so excited! I will do a post  about it when I get back!

Enjoy! Xo

1. I have seen lots of popsicle recipes popping up this summer. These sound SO delicious.

2. I really love unique pieces of jewelry. These pendants are made of broken china. How neat!

3. This bedside table is so awesome. And seems fairly simple to make!

4. Need to give your apartment just a little something but don’t want to make permanent marks? This washi tape is adorable when added to an entryway and peels right off!

First off, I know it’s Thursday and I am SO sorry I didn’t get to post this yesterday. A 3 hour long staff meeting to start your day will just mess all kinds of things up! So here we are with this week’s installment of Wedded Bliss Wednesdays on a Thursday. Sigh. I’ll get it together one day! Bridesmaid dresses have become such an integral part of planning a wedding because it’s all about achieving the look you want. Brides are so creative now with what they make their lovely maids wear that the sky is the limit. Want all the traditional,  same color and style of dress? Sure! Want to have one style but all different colors? Why not? Want them to wear funky tights and a skirt and top they own? Go for it! The point is, you want these special ladies to be comfortable on your day and you want them to feel good. There is nothing worse than a bridal party standing at the alter fidgeting because their dresses are too tight or too short. So, with that being said, I have included some of my favorite picks out there right now for bridesmaids below. Happy Browsing!

Enjoy! Xo

Love this for a formal wedding. I just adore Black Tie Weddings. There is something really special about seeing all of your loved ones dressed up for your big day!

This asymmetrical hemline is just beautiful. Paired with a heel, it is a stunning bridesmaid ensemble.

I actually love this lemon-lime color! Plus, the dress is beautiful. I can imagine it would be flattering on most girls as well!

I think this is such a great idea. Have your bridesmaids all get a certain length of dress (in this case, long) and then have them choose from a few colors that you like. It gives them a chance to have a dress they really love and is a great affect for the bridal party look.

Or how about all of them in floor length, nude dresses? It creates a beautiful look for any wedding!

Lastly, you can have a certain color for your maids to choose from (in this case, nudes) and have them pick a dress they like. I just love this look

This Grecian-inspired dress is beautiful. With the pleating and the one-shouldered style, I’m sure your bridesmaids will thank you for picking a flattering dress!

Or how about having a designer on Etsy create a whole mismatched line for your wedding? These dresses are ADORABLE and I LOVE the poppy color!

Another great option for a formal wedding. Plus, this dress is just too cute for words.

The two-toned look for bridesmaids definitely allows you to play in the color scheme a little more. Plus, it makes it a little less formal.

And last, but certainly not least, this classic silhouette which would look great on anyone. This dress is adorable in the color pictured or any colors you may want! Plus, it allows you to have a couple colors in the dress.

For this week’s Wedded Bliss installment, I wanted to highlight some of the different options there are for your guest book! Brides have done an awesome job of coming up with creative ways to do their guest book and I have chosen some of my favorite below!

Enjoy! Xo

I like this option because it is similar to the traditional guest book, however you can make it more of a scrapbook with the little taped pieces of paper that your guests write on. It would be really easy to add in photos later from the wedding to make this into a full scrapbook!

 Dawn & Gavin Hall                    chair

These two ideas are so unique and special. If there is a shared interest between you two, like a guitar or skis, having your guests sign one to display in your home is an awesome idea. Plus, it makes the guests feel like they are contributing to a real unique piece of your wedding that can be displayed for years to come!

puzzle   puzzle2

This puzzle idea is just adorable. Especially if you are puzzle enthusiasts! Have each of your guests fill out a puzzle piece and after the wedding, put it together for a fun activity. Then you can frame it to keep it in your home. I have also seen ideas where you can have the puzzle printed with a favorite picture of the two of you then have guests sign on the back!

Stones are great for the outdoorsy types. They are beautiful to have displayed around your home too! Keep them in a big vase and when you need a pick me up or a reminder of your special day, take out a few and read them!

I absolutely adore this fingerprint idea. This idea is really cute to model after their favorite movie UP! Or you could make a tree and have everyone’s fingerprints be the leaves. Lots of options here and it’s one of a kind!

Lastly, my favorite idea, the wishing tree! These can be made so elaborate and beautiful or just simple with some twigs in a vase. It’s completely up to you! Your guests write well wishes on cards and hang it from the tree. It is a beautiful decoration piece and can be kept for years if you want! Or, take the wishes and frame them in a big collage!
